Getting around Seoul

The apps, cards and travel times worth knowing before you land.

Digital tools & apps

Naver Map / KakaoMap
Google Maps has limited functionality in Korea. Download one of these for routes, walking directions and transit times.
UT (Uber Taxi)
Uber operates as UT in South Korea. Your usual Uber app works automatically.
k.ride
Recommended taxi app for visitors. Link a corporate Visa or Mastercard for seamless payment.
Kakao T
Choose “General Request” and “Pay to Driver”, then pay by foreign credit card on arrival.
Papago
Naver’s translation app is more accurate than Google Translate for Korean text and menus.

Transit & local logistics

T-money card
Buy one at the airport or any CU, GS25 or 7-Eleven for subway and bus travel. Reloads at station kiosks are cash-only.
Subway
Yeouinaru Station (Line 5, Exit 1) is a 5–6 min walk; Yeouido Station (Lines 5 & 9, Exit 5) is about 8 min.
Power adapters
Korea uses European Type C and F plugs.
Late-night taxis
20% surcharge after 22:00, rising to 40% between 23:00 and 02:00.
Pedestrian safety
Pedestrians don’t automatically have right of way at crossings. Watch for delivery mopeds on sidewalks.

South Korean Won (KRW / ₩). Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted; small street vendors may need cash.
Cash to carry
About 50,000–100,000 KRW for street markets, small vendors and transit card reloads.
ATMs
Use airport or “Global ATM” machines. Choose to be billed in KRW to avoid dynamic currency conversion fees.
